Famous Car Auctions
They are the stuff dreams are made of, cars that are synonymous with films that we watched as children and make us think of particular films. Whether it is the DeLorean from Back to the Future or the Jeep from Jurassic Park, these cars are what we often remember most when we think of our childhood favourites. And favourite films are something we hold with us for our lives, so it makes sense that the cars will be too.
And collector's dreams came true this week when it was announced that some of the famous cars that we have known and loved would be auctioned to the highest bidder.
Cars involved included the Mystery Machine made famous by the cartoon, and later the film Scooby Doo, and Herbie from a collection of films including the car. Hanna Barberra are also releasing the Gotham City Police Car used in the Heath Ledger in the new Batman films, plus the Jalopy used for the Beverley Hillbillies films in the early nineties.
Also on offer are cars used in the Fast and Furious series starring Vin Diesel, of which they have made four films with a fifth in production at Universal Studios currently. There are also cars from the Indiana Jones films and other vehicles available include General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard; a sure fire hit with collectors.
Oddly there has been no reserve prices set for the vehicles, but being heirlooms of the film world it is not expected that collectors will glean a bargain at these auctions. A previous film relic that has been sold off to the general public is the Aston Martin DB5 used for Sean Connery's stint in the James Bond films, which achieved a high auction price of over two point five million when sold in London last year. The car was seen in films such as Goldfinger and Thunderball, and a collector in London is now the proud owner. It has been known for cars like this to be shipped all around the world, and so high prices are commanded.
