The Grammy awards are one of thie biggest nights in entertainment. This years awards are scheduled for Sunday February 13, 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Grammies, which showcases the best in the music industry, is known for it's big moments and even bigger performances. Have you ever read a book by Dan Simmons?

I'm just curious because I've heard, and read, mixed reviews about his work. Did you like his books? Which one did you read? Thanks.

I'm actually in the midst of reading Drood right now and it's quite good, it could have used an editor who was a bit more ruthless, but I'm still enjoying it. I have a couple of other books by him that I skimmed before buying, The Terror looks like it also could have used some more editing but has an interesting enough story that I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and Carrion Comfort which I've heard from many people is probably one of the best and most under-rated vampire novels around.

I think that maybe the reason Simmons gets such hit-and-miss ratings is because he has tried his hand at so many genres (let's see, horror, sci-fi, mystery, historical... I'm sure I've missed a couple) that there isn't much of a foundation to build your expectations of his books on. This almost inevitably leads to disappontment because you expect one kind of thing and the book turns out to be something completely different, this seems to apply especially to fans of his Hyperion books who seem almost universally disappointed in anything he writes that isn't sci-fi.
