A Global Leap In Consciousness

With the death toll in Sumatra now above 1,000, the kind of natural disasters we talked about yesterday, escalating because of global warming, are cause for concern for humanity's future.

In Hurricane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast just over five years ago, I saw both the best and the worst of what humans are capable of. In the years ahead, it's going to be essential that humanity discover it's potential for caring.

In New Orleans, there were people who looted, people who blamed, people who lost all sense of perspective. But far more so, there were people from whom there came an unprecedented outpouring of concern and cooperation.

In our deepest being, all of us are love. But sadly, the world we grow up in doesn't always bring out our essential being. On the contrary, we become people who, instead of caring, are run by an emotional charge of unintegrated pain. So it is that we behave in unloving, competitive, even violent ways.

As natural disasters escalate, and the threat of terrorism and the use of weapons of mass destruction becomes ever more likely, there is a tremendous need for humanity to shift into a new state of consciousness—an awareness of our true being, which is our loving center, so that cooperation replaces competition, caring triumphs over hostility, and acceptance trumps blame.

The key to this shift lies in an evolutionary leap in the beliefs that so affect people's lives through the various religious systems.

The other day, I learned of a nun in the southern United States who is reading my Namaste book Your Forgotten Self. In this same convent, all of the nuns have read and worked through Michael Brown's Namaste book The Presence Process. He shared with me a photo of their smiling faces.

In a different branch of the Christian faith, retired Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong has long written books that invite us to evolve in our understanding. Now, he has a new book out, which I am presently reading and thrilled with. It's entitled Eternal Life: A New Vision, with the subtitle Beyond Religion, Beyond Theism, Beyond Heaven and Hell.

Speaking of our essential being, Deepak Chopra says of Bishop Spong's new book that it "is an elegant invitation to find this part of yourself and be liberated."

Says Matthew Fox of Bishop Spong, "His courage, candor and intense awareness are unique gifts to people both inside and outside Christianity at this critical time in human and planetary history."

We are indeed at a critical time in human and planetary history.

Here at Namaste Publishing, all of our books are chosen for the way they raise human consciousness to an awareness of our divine essence. In particular, Your Forgotten Self invites a leap in our understanding of Jesus.

When I shared the manuscript with Eckhart Tolle before it went to press, Eckhart said to me at our Vancouver headquarters, "I was thinking about writing a book about Jesus, but perhaps now I don't have to." He also offered a couple of helpful insights that were incorporated into the text.

With something like 80% of America claiming to be Christian, and with two billion plus adherents around the globe—plus another billion Moslems who acknowledge Jesus, though in a different way from Christians—there's a great need today to reach into the Christian world with books like Your Forgotten Self.

When The Power of Now was first published, which was the reason Namaste Publishing was founded, awareness of this books life-changing message spread by word of mouth. Eleven years later, millions of copies have gone out into the world.

Now, there's a need for an awareness of our loving essence to spread far and wide in religious circles, so that a leap to a new level of consciousness altogether—a level pointed to in Your Forgotten Self—can get underway.

Will you help spread the word, telling people of books like Your Forgotten Self, and inviting them to our website.

Do you think Alice is to close to Lucy and Oliver?

My current favorite name is Alice Penelope.

My only fear is that it might sound to with two of my children's names ; Lucy August and Bishop Oliver ( he goes by Oliver ).

I feel like it's kind of like a combination between the two names.
Would you still use Alice ?
Do you like Alice ( not thinking about my other children's names ) ?
Which is better Hazel or Alice ?

My other kids are Sebastian Ripley, Jude Michael River and Charlotte Amelia Carys.
I'm not pregnant , I'm just playing with some names.

I think it sounds close enough that it complements the names and flows nicely with them, but they're not too close to work together, though. I think they sound really nice together. Also, I love the name Alice (not really into Hazel, though). Alice is actually one of my faves that I'm considering possibly using someday. I like Alice Christina or Alice Brianna. But Alice Penelope is really cute too and I think it sounds just fine with your other children's names.
