Art of Animation As a Rare Collectible
Drawings and sketches from a variety of animation artists can even be found in popular art galleries throughout the world.
Collecting animation art has grown within the past decade due to variety of characters being produced by these exceptional artists. The artwork used in the production of animated films are highly sought after by animation experts all over the world. In fact, there is a growing obsession for collecting these valuable pieces. Some collectors collect a variety of animation art, but the majority of collectors will stick to a specific subject or theme.
There are two types of animation art, which are original and reproduction. Original forms of animation art refers to artwork that has been used in the production of an animated film, while reproduction forms are created after a film has been created and are normally offered as a limited edition. Before the technology advancement of computers all animation was done completely by hand, and now sketches of characters are simply scanned into a computer where the frames are completed.

Original production animation art will range between five hundred dollars to five thousand dollars for a television series production, and for movie series production they can range from fifteen thousand to over fifty thousand. However, reproduction animation art can be purchased directly from their creators such as Disney or Warner Brothers at their outlet shops. The prices will general start at three hundred for sericels, three thousand for xerographic lined cels, and four to five thousand for hand inked cels.

These types of publications gives collectors the opportunity the chance to share their collecting stories, ask questions, and share their experience will others. Other area of interest for a collector who is just beginning to collect animation art is from the International Animated Film Society.
Collecting animation art can be extremely exciting where collectors can display a character of their childhood into their collection. The world of animation art includes characters like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck. The most popular type of animation art is called production cel, which where a hand painted animation cel is actually filmed to create one frame of an animated scene that will appear within a cartoon. The popularity of this type of animation art has become overwhelming due to collectors seem to identify the character in these final painted versions.
The determining factors of what the price of an animation art will be includes the type of art, rarity, condition, how the character is posing, and what cartoon it was actually used in.
